Coolest Watchs ever

Friday, April 1, 2011

I needed some new watches
being addicted to Red neon lights gadgets
i started to google the web for digital Led wristwatches.
since you can find about everything on the web
there had to be a place for a Red Glowing Watch somewhere
I was right soon i came across some Led watches by Diesel/Fossil.
I found a netshop with 10% discount
but when i was about to order i saw the store was just 1 hour away
i rushed to the trainstation and reached the train just in time
some hours later I came home with the Best watch i owned ever.

Upon trying Diesel DZ7164 which is the one i got
I was surprised how comfy it was

Even with the bright light in the store i could easy see the Matrix led
sure it will be harder under sunlight but i already expect that.
But Led watches is for Night life.
The watch came in a white nice plastic box with instruction booklet

Operating the watch was so easy even without reading the instructions
just 2 buttons to press one for display time and one for settings.
This watch will Scroll a personalized message to up to 10 characters.
It also have Date and month function.
The wrist is very thick and seem both Soft and solid

Led Wrist Watches is nothing new they been around for like forever
and improved little over the years
They use a lot of battery power so to preserve battery life
you Have to press a button to display time

The first Digital Watch PULSAR was released by Hamilton in 1972
had a Red Led display and was made of 18carat gold
The inspiration came from the movie 2001:A Space Odyssey (1968)
The watch was sold for (2000$/1400€)
on the right a later version in metal:

By 1975 Texas Instruments began mass production of LED watches
in plastic case. Before this digital watches were very expensive
These watches sold for $20/15€ and reduced to $10/7€ in 1976
In 1978 Hamilton watch company was acquired by Seiko in 1978
The Pulsar brand still exist as a sub-brand of Seiko
today only Analoge pulsar clock exist.

Here is a photo of the famous Watch commodore made in the 70s:

LED watches in 1970s used a lot of power so to preserve battery life
you had to press and hold a button to display the time.
Older watches shut off the display as soon you let go off the bottom
Today battery life is better and while you still have to press a button
it will stay lighted for 10 seconds.
Newer watches will also scroll a Matrix Led message up to 10 characters.

Once watches with LCD display become avaible in the 80s
Led watches become lesser common because LCD watches use less power
so the display can be always on without pressing buttons.
But LCD displays are mostly monocromes and not as cool as Led watches
also the feeling you get from pushing a button to get time is special.

Lately Led watches is emerging as a Retro Niche market
for trendy people.
But still require you to push a button to display the time to save battery.
maybe in a future we will see Amoled watches which use lesser battery
then maybe we see Led displays always-on become avaible.

Conclusion:
I am very happy so far with the watch
and I can highly recomend it
If you want an alternative you can also look into BlackDice Guru

Some days ago I also got a Radio clock
I could not resist when seeing a Red Led Radio clock

the numbers are bright and you can see it clearly even in dailight
is made by a hong kong company called Orbit

this was so cool and was sold for a good price
